Bearing Dimensions

The charts below give boundary dimensions and basic load ratings for the three most commonly used bearing types: deep groove ball bearings, angular contact ball bearings and tapered roller bearings. Dimensions follow ISO 15 (radial ball bearings) and ISO 355 (tapered roller bearings), so bearings from any major manufacturer carrying the same designation will share the same boundary dimensions.

Dynamic load rating (C) is the constant radial load a bearing can theoretically endure for one million revolutions. Static load rating (C0) is the load a stationary bearing can withstand without permanent deformation of the rolling elements or raceways becoming detrimental to operation. Both are given in kN.

DEEP GROOVE BALL BEARINGS — 6000 / 6200 / 6300 SERIES

Deep groove ball bearings are the most widely used rolling bearing type, handling radial loads with a moderate capacity for axial load in both directions. The 6000 series is the extra-light dimension series, 6200 is light, and 6300 is medium — all three share the same bore for a given last-two-digits code, but increase in outer diameter, width and load capacity from 6000 through to 6300.

ANGULAR CONTACT BALL BEARINGS — 7200 / 7300 SERIES

Angular contact ball bearings carry combined radial and axial loads, but only in one axial direction per bearing, so they are usually mounted in pairs. The 7200 series is the light dimension series and 7300 is medium; both have a 40° contact angle.

TAPERED ROLLER BEARINGS — 30200 SERIES

Tapered roller bearings use tapered rollers running between tapered inner (cone) and outer (cup) raceways, giving them a high capacity for combined radial and axial loads in one direction. Like angular contact bearings, they are usually mounted in opposing pairs. The 30200 series is the standard single-row metric series to ISO 355.

These charts cover the most commonly used sizes in each series (bore 10–100mm, or 15–100mm for tapered roller bearings). Larger sizes exist in every series — consult a bearing manufacturer's catalogue for the full range, along with details on seals, shields, cages, clearance classes and limiting speeds, which aren't covered here.
